A Brief about Occupational English Test

What is OET?

OET means Occupational English Test, which could be taken by Doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other health care related professionals.

Why OET to other English exams?

Though OET has a similar exam pattern to ielts ,it is preferred by health care professionals because the exam focuses on testing our English proficiency with questions related to their  respective professions

How long is exam valid?

3 years

when is it preferred to take the exam?

Since the validity is for three years, it is preferable to take the exam during the final year or internship of your respective courses

Countries that validate OET

Australia, Canada, Ireland, Maldives, Malta, Namibia, Newzealand, Philippines, Qatar, Singapore, Spain, UK, UAE, USA, Ukraine.

How often is OET conducted?

OET is conducted twice a month throughout the year

Where you can book your exams?

Exam pattern

OET consists of 4 subtests viz,.

  • Listening:

It has 3 parts (A, B & C)

A total of 42 questions to be answered in 40 minutes.

  • Reading:

It has 3 parts (A, B & C)

A total of 42 questions to be answered in 60 minutes/ 1 hour ( 15 minutes for part A and 45 minutes for part B & C together).

  • Writing:

You have to write a referral letter/ update letter to any of the health care professionals in 45 minutes (5 minutes to read the letter and 40 to write).

  • Speaking

Here, you will be the health care professional conversing with an interlocutor (a person who is proficient in English and doesn’t belong to your profession) who will be assigning two tasks related to your profession.

Each speaking task will last for 10 – 15 minutes ( 3 minutes of warm up questions, 2 mins to read the task and 5 minutes of speaking).
